2009 OFFICIAL STAMPEDE POSTER

Limited Edition by Photographer Liz Twan
The 2009 edition of the Williams Lake Stampede rodeo poster is from an original photograph taken by local photographer, Liz Twan. The photo, taken on July 1st, 2007 Canada Day, is of Beiseker, Alberta bronc rider, J.R. Reding on a John Duffy-owned saddle bronc horse; aptly named - Coffee Stains.
The photo, one of literally hundreds taken by Twan over the course of a rodeo weekend of the action at the Williams Lake Stampede was chosen by a committee to be on the 2009 poster. The saddle bronc event is one of the classic, original events of the early-day rodeos; an event spawned by the competitive nature of the working ranch-cowboys. It began as a gathering on the flat; a competition between local cowboys to see who could ride the bucking horses (the rank outlaws); with the greatest style. It has evolved to the professional sporting event that takes place today. Originally, the ride was timed to last 10 long seconds now an 8-second ride is official.
Twan is a long-time resident, a Stampede volunteer (2008 Lifetime Pass recipient) who also records the event, annually through her lens. The Stampede website and many forms of printed Stampede advertising feature Lizs photographs offered for use, freely - to the Williams Lake Stampede Association.
